Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi Plans for a Safe and Smooth Chardham Yatra

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi reviewed a report by IIM Rohtak on the carrying capacity of Chardham and directed the preparation of an action plan for a smooth and safe pilgrimage. The meeting, held at the Secretariat, focused on improving the carrying capacity and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Chardham yatra to make it as pleasant, smooth, and safe as possible for the devotees.

Chief Secretary Raturi emphasized the need to accurately assess the carrying capacity of the four Dhams and to prioritize improvements in road conditions, traffic management, and solutions for overcrowding. The action plan will also focus on medical and emergency services, effective yatra management, and strengthening the local economy while preserving the local ecology.

Discussions included simplifying the registration system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards and AADHAR-based registration, implementing an SMS Weather Update System, providing medical facilities under the PPP model or CSR, and a Batch Wise Darshan system for crowd control. Parking capacity reviews were also part of the discussion.

Earlier, on Monday, Chief Secretary Raturi met with the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board and gave strict instructions on e-waste management. She instructed all government and non-government organizations to make proper arrangements for solid waste management and medical waste disposal. The Pollution Control Board will issue notices to departments that have accumulated unnecessary e-waste, such as old computers, printers, scanners, and mobiles.
