Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi Fights Fake Birth and Death Certificates
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 24: The Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Radha Raturi, has instructed officials to take strict action against fake birth and death certificates. She also directed to simplify the registration process for the public.
Raturi emphasized the importance of these certificates for various government schemes such as school admissions, widow pensions, and life insurance claims. She warned that families sometimes fall into the trap of fraudsters, obtaining fake certificates for a large sum of money, which later causes difficulties.
During a meeting with officials, Raturi mentioned that many fake websites mimicking the official government site for birth and death registration have been reported. She urged the public to be cautious and to contact their local registrar for certificate issuance.
A new portal has been launched by the Government of India to prevent fake registrations and to simplify the process. Families can now apply for birth or death registration online using an email and mobile number. The status of the application can be checked anytime, and a digital certificate is issued once the registrar verifies the documents. This digital certificate is sent to the applicant’s email and can be downloaded and used as needed.
Raturi stressed the need for proper publicity of this new system among the public and instructed the relevant departments to take necessary actions. Earlier, she reviewed the ongoing birth-death registration work in the state with various departments at the Secretariat. The meeting included officials from Health and Family Welfare, Census, Panchayati Raj, Revenue, Urban Development, Uttarakhand Medical Council, and other related departments.
