Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh Governments Take Action Against Spitting in Food

The government of Uttarakhand, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has introduced strict guidelines to prevent spitting in food items. A fine of up to Rs 1 lakh can be imposed on offenders, as per the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Chief Minister’s Office. The Chief Minister emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated in the state.

In a related development, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is also taking measures to address similar issues. The state plans to introduce the ‘Prevention of Pseudo and Anti-Harmony Activities and Prohibition of Spitting Ordinance 2024’ and the ‘UP Prevention of Contamination in Food (Consumer Right to Know) Ordinance 2024’. These ordinances aim to ensure strict action against those who contaminate food with spit and to provide consumers with complete information about their food.

Chief Ministers’ Statements

Chief Minister Dhami has assured that actions will be taken against what he referred to as “land jihad, love jihad, and thook (spit) jihad,” emphasizing that such practices are unacceptable in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government is focusing on empowering consumers with knowledge about their food’s origin and preparation.
