Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League Expands with New Franchises for Season 2
The Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League (UPKL) is gearing up for an exciting second season following the success of its inaugural event in July 2024. Held at the Noida Indoor Stadium, the first season featured eight teams, including the Yamuna Warriors, Noida Ninjas, Kashi Kings, Awadh Ramdoot, Brij Stars, Sangam Challengers, Ayodhya Warriors, Ganga Kings of Mirzapur, and the champions, Lucknow Lions.
In a bid to accommodate more talented players, the league plans to introduce four new franchises in the upcoming season. Sambhav Jain, the organizer of UPKL, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “This expansion will bring even more competitive spirit and opportunities for players across the state, as we continue to grow the league and the sport of kabaddi.”
The first season was a major hit among kabaddi fans, drawing a wide audience from across India. With 120 players participating, each team comprised 15 athletes from various regions. The support from fans and the Uttar Pradesh government, led by CM Yogi Adityanath, was crucial to the league’s success. The organizers are grateful for this support and look forward to continuing their partnership with the government.
