Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya Responds to Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘Monsoon Offer’
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 19: After Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav announced a ‘Monsoon Offer,’ Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya called it ‘Mungerilal ke haseen sapne,’ referring to a 1989 TV show about a daydreamer named Mungerilal.
In a post on X, Maurya said that the public and party workers will ‘wrap up the Monsoon Offer at 47’ in 2027. The elections for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly are scheduled for 2027. Maurya described the Samajwadi Party as a ‘sinking ship’ and a ‘dying party’ whose present and future are in danger. He expressed confidence that the 2017 state assembly election results, where the BJP won 312 seats, will be repeated in 2027, and the ‘Lotus’ government will be formed again.
Earlier, Maurya caused a stir with another post on X, stating, ‘The organisation is bigger than the government; the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organisation; the workers are the pride.’ This post led to speculation of dissent within the BJP.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP’s internal power struggle meant it wasn’t focusing on the public. On July 18, Yadav announced a ‘Monsoon Offer’ on X, asking dissidents to bring a hundred MLAs and form the government in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav also mentioned in an interview that if Maurya could bring in a hundred MLAs, the Samajwadi Party would support him in forming the government.
Currently, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holds 283 seats in the 403-member assembly, while the SP-led INDIA bloc has 107 seats.
