Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Vows Justice After Stampede in Hathras
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 2: After a tragic stampede at a religious event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, which resulted in 116 deaths, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has promised a thorough investigation to determine if it was an accident or a conspiracy. The government has announced compensation for the victims’ families. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed their condolences. A team led by Additional DG Agra will investigate the incident, with state officials already at the scene.
Details of the Incident
The stampede occurred during a program organized by local organizers for ‘Bhole Baba’. When the preacher of the Satsang was coming down from the stage, a crowd of devotees surged forward to touch him. The ‘sevadars’ tried to stop them, leading to the tragic incident.
Government Response
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the government is sensitive to the matter and will ensure appropriate punishment for those responsible. A team has been formed under the chairmanship of Additional DG Agra to investigate and provide a detailed report. The Chief Secretary and DGP of the state are present at the site, along with three state ministers: Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan, Sandeep Singh, and Asim Arun.
Compensation and Condolences
The Government of India and the state government have announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the families of the seriously injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the bereaved families.
Current Status
Aligarh Commissioner Chaitra V confirmed that 116 people have died and 18 are injured. Treatment for the injured is being ensured in Aligarh district, and a primary investigation is underway.
