Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Plans to Recruit 42,000 New Home Guard Volunteers

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the work of the Home Guard department. He announced plans to recruit 42,000 new Home Guard volunteers in two phases. Adityanath praised the volunteers for their dedication, saying, “Whether it is a matter of law and order, or an opportunity to help the general public during disasters, Home Guard volunteers have always demonstrated their dedication.”

He noted that there are currently more than 76,000 full-time Home Guard volunteers in the state, with about 75,000 posted at duty points. Approximately 4,000 volunteers retire each year, and by 2033, over 42,000 will have retired. To address this, Adityanath emphasized the need for timely recruitment, targeting 21,000 new volunteers in each of the two phases.

Adityanath also discussed the potential of recruiting disaster friends, skilled manpower from the State Disaster Management Authority, to serve as Home Guard volunteers. He suggested training these disaster friends and coordinating with the State Disaster Management Authority to prepare the necessary rules.

Additionally, Adityanath proposed that current Home Guard volunteers should also receive training as disaster friends and participate in weekly physical fitness drills.
