Usman Khawaja Talks About Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Struggles and Babar Azam’s Future

Australia’s Usman Khawaja shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup and Babar Azam’s future as the white-ball captain. Pakistan, who were finalists last year, surprisingly crashed out in the group stage this time.

There have been significant changes in the Pakistan cricket setup since last year’s ODI World Cup. Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick resigned from their positions at Pakistan’s National Cricket Academy. Mohammad Hafeez was appointed as the director of cricket but was sacked after a series loss to New Zealand. Gary Kirsten was then appointed as the white-ball head coach.

Khawaja believes these constant changes contributed to Pakistan’s poor campaign. He said, “When I look from the outside, everything is changing in the Pakistan cricket team. Selection committee members, staff, and players keep changing.”

After their disappointing campaign, Babar Azam faced heavy scrutiny regarding his captaincy. Khawaja commented, “It’s Babar Azam’s decision to captain, if he can, he should.”

Pakistan ended their campaign with a win over Ireland, but it was too late as India and the USA advanced to the Super 8 stage. Pakistan’s next white-ball series will be against Australia in November, starting with a three-match ODI series on November 4.
