After a massive 10-wicket defeat against England in the Super Fours match of the T20 World Cup 2024, United States stand-in skipper Aaron Jones shared his thoughts on the game and the future of USA cricket.

Match Recap

England won the toss and chose to bowl first. Nitish Kumar was the standout batter for the USA, scoring 30 runs from 24 balls, helping the team reach a total of 115 runs. England’s Chris Jordan led the bowling attack, taking four wickets for just 10 runs. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid also took two wickets each, while Reece Topley and Liam Livingstone took one wicket each.

During the run chase, England’s Philip Salt and Jos Buttler opened the innings, making a 117-run stand. Buttler scored an impressive 83 runs from 38 balls, leading England to a 10-wicket victory and securing their place in the semifinals.

Aaron Jones’ Reflections

Aaron Jones admitted that the USA team did not perform well in their last two matches. He praised England spinner Adil Rashid for his experience and skill, noting that the USA’s shot selection was poor. Jones expressed optimism about the future, hoping that their World Cup participation would increase interest in cricket in the USA.

“This is our first World Cup, and many people did not expect us to be here playing against big teams like England and the West Indies. Hopefully, this will open the eyes of the American public. We’ve received a lot of support during this World Cup, and I see us getting bigger and better from here,” Jones said.
