US Secretary Antony Blinken Talks with G7 Ministers to Calm Middle East Tensions

Washington, DC [US], August 5: United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with G7 Foreign Ministers on Sunday to discuss diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

According to an official statement from the US State Department, Blinken and the G7 Foreign Ministers discussed the urgent need for de-escalation in the Middle East. They focused on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, securing the release of hostages, and allowing a surge of humanitarian aid to the region. They also discussed how a ceasefire could lead to greater peace and stability, including across the Blue Line.

The Secretary and Foreign Ministers reiterated their commitment to Israel’s security and urged maximum restraint from all parties to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

US State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller shared a post on X, stating, “@SecBlinken spoke with G7 Foreign Ministers to discuss diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.”

This development comes as tensions continue to rise between Israel, Iran, and Lebanon following the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week. The killings of senior militants from Hamas and Hezbollah have further escalated the situation, alongside the ongoing war in Gaza, which has lasted nearly 10 months.

On Sunday, around 50 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards Israel, according to Israeli media reports cited by SKY News. Videos showed Israel’s Iron Dome defense system being activated over the area. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacking the new Israeli settlement, Beit Hillel, with rockets in response to Israeli attacks on Palestinian villages in Gaza, which injured civilians.

In a statement, Hezbollah said, “In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their valiant and honorable resistance, and in response to the Israeli enemy’s attacks on the steadfast southern villages and safe homes, especially the attacks that targeted the villages of Kafr Kila and Deir Siryan and injured civilians, the Islamic Resistance included the new settlement of Beit Hillel in its fire schedule and bombarded it for the first time with dozens of Katyusha rockets.”
