US Sanctions 400 More Individuals and Entities in Russia and China Over Ukraine War
The United States has sanctioned approximately 400 individuals and entities from Russia, China, and other countries for their support of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The US Treasury Department announced on August 23 that it targeted companies and individuals whose products and services help Russia sustain its military efforts and evade sanctions.
Key Figures and Entities Sanctioned
The sanctions list includes 34 Russians, such as Pavel Belousov, the son of Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov. Citizens from Belarus, Italy, Turkey, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland have also been affected. The US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) added 123 entities to the Entity List, including 63 in Russia or Crimea, 42 in China, and 14 in Turkey, Iran, and Cyprus.
US Government’s Stance
The US government will continue to support Ukraine and hold Russia accountable for its aggression. The State Department expressed concern over dual-use goods exports from China to Russia, which fill critical gaps in Russia’s defense production. Two major Chinese machine tool suppliers and six Chinese electronic component suppliers are among the sanctioned companies.
Additional Sanctions
The US has also sanctioned Turkish, Russian, and UAE companies supplying microelectronic components, as well as Russian companies in energy production, air transport, heavy machinery, and other sectors. Swiss national Anton Daniel Wyss has been sanctioned for enabling Russian cash flow in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Support for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the US for the new sanctions and military aid package. He emphasized the need for continued sanctions pressure on Russia and the urgent delivery of weapons to protect Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure.
