US President Joe Biden, Egypt, and Qatar Urge Israel and Hamas to Resume Ceasefire Talks

US President Joe Biden, along with leaders from Egypt and Qatar, has called on Israel and Hamas to resume ceasefire talks on August 15 in Doha or Cairo. The joint statement, released by the White House, emphasizes the urgency of finalizing the agreement and implementing the ceasefire and hostage release.

The statement, dated August 8, 2024, was made by President Biden, the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It is based on principles outlined by President Biden on May 31, 2024, and endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2735.

The three countries acting as mediators are prepared to present a final proposal to resolve remaining issues and meet the expectations of all parties. They stressed that there is no further time to waste and called for the immediate release of hostages and the start of the ceasefire.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office responded positively, stating that Israel will send a delegation to the negotiations on August 15. The location of the talks, either Cairo or Doha, is yet to be finalized.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have bombed two schools in northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 Palestinians.
