US Praises India’s Historic Lok Sabha Elections

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller praised India’s Lok Sabha elections, calling it the largest exercise of democracy in history and an extraordinary achievement. He emphasized that the US takes no sides in the election outcome, which is for the Indian people to decide.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured a third term with the support of coalition parties, including Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP. The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats was held in seven phases starting April 19, with vote counting on June 4. The BJP won 240 seats, while the Congress won 99 seats. The INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition.

US President Joe Biden’s Congratulations

On June 5, US President Joe Biden congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on their victory. He noted that the friendship between India and the US is growing as the two nations unlock a shared future of unlimited potential. Biden posted on X, congratulating Modi and the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election. The two leaders also held talks over the phone, with Modi expressing his appreciation for Biden’s warm words and support for Indian democracy.
