US Official Vedant Patel Talks About India, Pakistan, and Terrorism
Washington, DC [US], July 2: Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, reiterated the US stance on terrorism, expressing hope that all countries condemn terrorism anywhere.
During a media briefing, Patel was asked about US relations with India and Pakistan, given India’s position that terrorism and talks cannot go together with Pakistan. Patel responded, “We would hope that any country on the face of the planet condemns terrorism anywhere.” He added that the US welcomes countries making positive relations with their neighbors but emphasized that the issue between India and Pakistan is for them to resolve.
Patel highlighted the deepening US-India relations in various key areas, particularly economic ties and security cooperation. He mentioned that US President Joe Biden briefly met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 summit. Patel also noted PM Modi’s state visit to the US and National Security Adviser Sullivan’s recent visit to Delhi as examples of ongoing efforts to strengthen the relationship.
