US Awaits India’s Investigation on Alleged Plot to Kill Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

The US is looking forward to the results of India’s investigation into the alleged plot to kill India-designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed that the issue has been raised with the Indian government, and a full investigation is expected.

Indian national Nikhil Gupta is accused of being involved in the failed murder plot of Pannun. Gupta was extradited from the Czech Republic to the US to stand trial. The US Justice Department alleges that Gupta and others plotted the assassination, which was foiled by US authorities.

Pannun, who holds American and Canadian citizenship, is a pro-Khalistani terrorist. The US Justice Department unsealed an indictment against Gupta for his alleged involvement in the plot. The charges are accusations, and Gupta is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

India formed a high-level inquiry committee to address the security concerns highlighted by the US. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India takes such inputs seriously and relevant departments are examining the issue.

US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell mentioned that India has been responsive to US concerns and there has been constructive dialogue between the two countries. The US has consistently asked for updates on the Indian Committee of Inquiry’s investigations. Campbell also noted that India is considering potential institutional reforms in response to the allegations.
