Maryland [US], August 7: The United States and Australia held important meetings to strengthen their partnership in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin hosted Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles in Annapolis, Maryland.

  • Australia’s continued progression in joining the US Global Entry Program to streamline entry to the United States.
  • A new four-year phase of the USAID – Australia Mekong Safeguards Program to support better environmental, social, and governance standards in the Mekong subregion.
  • Commitment to conclude a space framework agreement for cooperation on civil space activities, including NASA’s Artemis program.
  • An inaugural Ministerial First Nations Dialogue to advance economic development, Indigenous rights, and environmental stewardship with First Nations peoples in Australia and federally recognized tribes in the US.
  • Signing of an MoU for exchanges in technical security, cyber security, and threat analysis.
  • Agreement to co-host the Pacific Banking Forum to support the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat’s Correspondent Banking Relationship Roadmap.
  • US support for cultural preservation efforts in the Pacific through the Australian Museum’s Pasifika Tauhi project.
  • Continued progress by the Australia-US Critical Minerals Taskforce to secure and diversify critical mineral supply chains and increase investment in mining and processing projects.
