UPPSC Students Protest in Prayagraj
Demands for Single Shift Exams
In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, students have been protesting for four days, demanding that the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exams be conducted in a single shift. The protests have been marked by tensions, with students breaking police barricades to reach the UPPSC office.
Police and Student Perspectives
Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Bharti stated that some ‘anti-social elements’ are inciting the students, leading to vandalism of public property. He emphasized that these individuals are not students but have criminal backgrounds, with two already arrested.
Student Abhishek Shukla expressed frustration, claiming the Commission is jeopardizing students’ futures by changing the exam pattern. He described police threats against gathering students and insisted that their demands are legitimate.
Another student, Priya Singh, questioned the government’s inability to meet their demands, while Abhishek Singh accused the police of destabilizing the protests. Pravesh Kumar reported police mistreatment, including against disabled students.
Ongoing Protests
The students continue to press for exams to be held in a single shift, arguing that the current two-shift system is unfair and unpredictable. They remain determined to have their voices heard despite the challenges faced during the protests.
