Demands for Single Shift Exams
In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, students have been protesting for four days, demanding that the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exams be conducted in a single shift. The protests have seen students breaking police barricades to reach the UPPSC office.
Police and Student Statements
Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Bharti stated that some ‘anti-social elements’ are provoking students and causing unrest. He emphasized that students should protest constitutionally and mentioned that some individuals with criminal histories have been arrested.
Student Abhishek Shukla expressed frustration, stating that the Commission is playing with students’ futures by changing the exam pattern. He highlighted that students are united in their demand for exams to be held in the former single-shift pattern.
Another student, Priya Singh, questioned why the government cannot fulfill their simple demand. She, along with others, criticized the administration’s handling of the situation.
Abhishek Singh and Pravesh Kumar, other students involved in the protest, reported police attempts to destabilize the protest and alleged mistreatment, including an incident involving a disabled student.
