UP CM Yogi Surveys Flood-Hit Areas in Lakhimpur Kheri; Delhi Prepares for Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding across 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh, affecting over 100 villages and croplands. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inspected flood-hit areas in Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit, distributing relief materials and meeting with affected residents. He noted that 133 villages are flood-affected and praised the efforts of local representatives in mitigating damage.
Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR received heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging. Delhi Minister Atishi assured that the state government is prepared to take swift action in response to any flood-like situation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rainfall in north and northeast India, including East Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR, in the coming days.
IMD scientist Soma Sen explained that the monsoon trough is shifting north, leading to increased rainfall in regions like Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya. Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh are also expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall. In central India, a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat is causing heavy rainfall in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
IMD scientist Surender Paul reported that Himachal Pradesh has received 33% more rainfall since July 1, with heavy rainfall expected on July 11-12. A yellow alert has been issued, and there is a possibility of flash floods in the state.
Delhi Minister Atishi visited the Yamuna River at Loha Pul and Yamuna Bazar to review flood preparedness. She emphasized that the Delhi government is ready to take action in case of floods, noting that last year saw the highest water level in 40 years.
