Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Announces Record 7,435 Special Trains for Festive Season
In New Delhi, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a record 7,435 special trains are being operated to ease passenger travel during the festive season. He stated that an additional 150 special trains will be scheduled if necessary. The minister was at New Delhi railway station to inspect the arrangements for passenger travel during the festivities.
Vaishnaw reported that 51 lakh people have already traveled on these special trains by October 31. As the festive season concludes, Indian Railways is preparing to manage the return of commuters, with plans to run 150 more special trains if needed. He emphasized the good arrangements made, including a large holding area and methodical passenger movement.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity for the Railway Board, shared that over 160 trains were run on Thursday, with plans for more than 170 trains on Friday. Special arrangements have been made at major stations across the country, including New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, to ensure safe travel during Chhath Puja.
Commuters have noted improvements in sanitation and government preparations, although ticket availability remains a challenge. The government has disallowed travel on waitlisted tickets, which has caused some difficulties despite visible improvements.
