New Delhi [India], September 11: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his comments on reservation while in the US. She questioned Gandhi’s intentions and accused him of defaming India. Karandlaje said, “Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the opposition inside the Parliament, he is not the leader of the opposition of India, outside the country, we are one. Why does he not understand this? What does he intend to do by defaming India? Is there any conspiracy against the country? We will not tolerate this.”

On September 9, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, stated that the Congress party would consider scrapping reservations when India becomes a “fair place,” which it is not. He made these remarks while interacting with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Gandhi emphasized the need for a caste census, highlighting that 90 per cent of the country’s population—OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis—do not have proper representation. He said, “There’s an elephant in the room. When we talk about the capture of institutions, businesses, and the media, the elephant in the room is that 90 per cent of India—OBCs, Dalits, Adivasis—aren’t even part of the game. That’s the elephant in the room.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal also criticized Gandhi, accusing him of defaming India on foreign soil in an “absolutely shameful manner.” Goyal questioned Gandhi’s reasoning and accused Congress of having a “well-thought agenda to attack” Prime Minister Modi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah added that it has become a habit for Gandhi to stand with “forces that conspire to divide the country.” Shah stated that the BJP would not let anyone abolish the reservation and compromise the nation’s security, alleging that Gandhi’s statements reflect his divisive policies.
