Union Minister and Thrissur BJP MP Suresh Gopi visited Kerala’s Wayanad district to assess the situation caused by landslides on July 30 in Chooralmala and Mundakkai. The disaster resulted in 308 deaths.

Gopi highlighted the ongoing search and rescue efforts, stressing the need for rehabilitation and accurate victim counts. He mentioned the challenges in determining the exact number of victims due to domestic tourism practices.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the local MP, also visited Wayanad. Gopi noted that Gandhi’s visit was expected as he represents the area.
Efforts and Support
Wayanad District Collector Meghashree reported that over 1,300 forces are involved in the rescue operations. Night patrols have been instituted to prevent unauthorized access to affected areas.
The Indian Air Force and Coast Guard have been instrumental in the rescue efforts, airlifting radars and rescuing stranded personnel.
Government Support
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for a Rs 5 crore donation towards relief efforts. As of the latest update, 215 bodies and 143 body parts have been recovered, with 148 bodies identified by relatives.
