Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar Criticizes West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Over Floods and Hospital Case

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), September 23: Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not maintaining dams, leading to flood-like situations in the state. He questioned the TMC government’s efforts, saying, ‘They did nothing… The West Bengal government did no repair work on dams… They are telling that they are getting no money from the central government but have they taken any initiative from their side?’

This criticism followed CM Banerjee’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over flooding in South Bengal due to heavy water releases from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) reservoirs in Jharkhand. She claimed the releases were done without sufficient input from her government.

When asked about the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape-murder case, Majumdar stated that the CBI investigation depends on the availability of evidence. ‘No agency can deliver justice if the evidence is not available… In the corruption incident, two arrests have been made. I feel that the investigation is going in the right direction,’ he said.

The BJP conducted torch marches across West Bengal, accusing the TMC government of ‘systematic failure’ in the RG Kar medical hospital rape and murder case of a 33-year-old trainee doctor. They called for CM Mamata Banerjee’s resignation, accusing the state’s administration of attempting to cover up the situation.
