Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Promotes Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti in Assam

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal shopped for Khadi garments from the Jagaran shop in Naharkatia, Assam. He was accompanied by MP Rameswar Teli and MLA Taranga Gogoi.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said, “The great son of India, Mahatma Gandhi, always championed the local industry, especially handlooms, and called upon people to embrace local products produced by weavers of India.” He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, encouraging people to support local industries.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended the ‘Swachhata Bharat Abhiyan’ in Nagpur, praising PM Modi for promoting cleanliness across the country. Gadkari said, “Swachhata Abhiyan has played a big role in making the life of the common man sustainable…Pure water, pure air, and pesticide-free vegetables can play a big role in keeping us healthy.”

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also participated in a Swachhata Abhiyan event in Kolkata, paying tribute to Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary. He noted the importance of maintaining cleanliness as the country celebrates ‘Devi Paksha’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined a cleanliness drive with schoolchildren, celebrating 10 years of the ‘Swacchata Hi Seva’ campaign. He stated that the Swachh Bharat Mission is the world’s biggest and most successful movement of this century, symbolizing the selfless commitment of millions of Indians.

The Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by PM Modi on October 2, 2014, aims to promote hygiene and cleanliness across India and eliminate open defecation. Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat, led India’s non-violent resistance against British rule, ultimately achieving independence in 1947.
