Union Minister Ramdas Athawale Talks About Peace and Tourism in Kashmir
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale announced that Kashmir is moving towards peace and is attracting tourists from around the world. He met with Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, in Srinagar to discuss the region’s development and unemployment issues.
Addressing a press conference, Athawale said, “We are looking at Kashmir with good intentions. The situation in Kashmir is changing. Kashmir is moving ahead in the direction of peace. Sporadic incidents of terrorism are taking place.” He assured that tourists have no reason to fear visiting Kashmir, citing that over 2.11 crore tourists have visited since the abrogation of Article 370.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, arrived in Srinagar to review preparations for the upcoming assembly polls. The delegation will meet with various stakeholders, including officials and political leaders, to ensure readiness for the elections.
In August 2019, the Centre revoked Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the region into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
