Bengaluru, Karnataka – Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has called for a CBI investigation into the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step down. This follows the Karnataka High Court’s dismissal of Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval for the investigation.

Allegations and Reactions

Joshi stated that over 500-1000 sites were allocated illegally, mostly in recent months, and emphasized the need for an impartial investigation. He described the High Court’s ruling as an “eye opener” for the Congress government in Karnataka.

BJP MP Jagadish Shettar echoed Joshi’s sentiments, insisting that Siddaramaiah should resign on moral grounds to allow for an impartial investigation. Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra also demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation, accusing the Congress government of corruption.

Congress Response

In contrast, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed the resignation calls, labeling them as a “political conspiracy” by the BJP. He asserted that Siddaramaiah has done nothing wrong and that the party stands by him.

High Court’s Decision

The Karnataka High Court dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition, stating that the Governor’s approval for the investigation did not suffer from non-application of mind. The case involves allegations that MUDA illegally allotted 14 sites to Siddaramaiah’s wife in Mysuru.

Despite a temporary relief granted by the High Court in August, the recent ruling has intensified calls for a thorough investigation.
