Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Calls for Transparency at Engineers’ Day Event in Pune

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended the Engineers’ Day event at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) and stressed the importance of transparency and a time-bound decision-making process. He pointed out the need to understand the spirit behind laws and criticized bureaucratic delays.

Gadkari said, “There is a difference between letter and spirit. If a knowledgeable person does not understand the spirit behind the law, then what is the use? Sometimes the situation is such that even if potholes on the roads are to be filled, the order of the boss is required. I do not want to say much about them right now, but other times, as soon as the money is in hand, the work begins, very quickly. We have ‘Newton’s father’ here, the more weight you put on the file, the faster it moves forward. There is a need for transparency and a time-bound decision-making process.”

He further added, “Many babus keep the file pending for three months, the way a person loves his wife with devotion. I like honest people who can get things done. I like hard-working people. Engineering, research, and technology are very important, but at the same time, if administration, teamwork, and transparency are good, then leadership will be of use.”

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the occasion of Engineers’ Day, saying the tireless dedication of professionals in the field has been the backbone of the nation’s progress over the years. PM Modi took to his official handle on the social media platform ‘X’ to pay homage to one of the country’s foremost civil engineers, M Visvesvaraya, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘Engineers Day’. Born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli near Chikkaballapur, Visvesvaraya is considered one of the foremost nation-builders. He designed several leading landmarks, which have, over the years, come to define and characterise modern India. He also served as the 19th Dewan of Mysuru, formerly known as Mysore, from 1912 to 1918.
