Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Inaugurates New Girls’ Hostel at LNCPE

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced that the Khelo India ASMITA Women’s League has greatly increased female participation in national sports events. He inaugurated a new 300-bed girls’ hostel at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The Minister emphasized the importance of investing in young women athletes, aiming for India to be in the top 10 of the medal tally at the 2036 Olympics. He encouraged athletes to play for the country and win medals, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Panch Pran, which stresses the honor brought to the nation by winning medals.
The hostel, part of the Khelo India infrastructure projects, was completed by WAPCOS within a budget of Rs 32.88 crores. Since 2014, 202 projects have been completed under the Khelo India scheme, with 121 more underway. The pentagon-shaped hostel includes five blocks, a centralized kitchen, storage rooms, staff dormitories, and washing areas.
During the event, the Minister honored sportspersons who have represented India in international games, including Arjuna awardees Padmini Thomas, S Omanakumari, Geethu Anna Jose, Saji Thomas, and V Diju. G Kishore, Principal & Regional Head of SAI RC LNCPE, and KM Beenamol were also present.
