Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Seeks Report on EY Employee’s Death in Pune
New Delhi, India – Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya has requested a report from the state department regarding the death of a 26-year-old EY employee in Pune, allegedly due to excessive workload. The report is expected to be submitted within 7-10 days.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken notice of the incident and issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment for a detailed report within four weeks. The NHRC has urged businesses to review their work culture and employment policies to align with global human rights standards.
The matter gained public attention after the mother of the young professional wrote an open letter to EY, claiming that long work hours had severely impacted her daughter’s physical, emotional, and mental health. EY has denied these allegations.
Minister Mandaviya assured that action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. He emphasized that the death of any citizen, whether in a white-collar job or any other occupation, is a matter of concern and will be thoroughly investigated.
