Union Minister L Murugan Defends BJP Amid Hindi-Tamil Controversy in Tamil Nadu

In Chennai, Union Minister L Murugan addressed accusations from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is against Tamils and is trying to impose Hindi in Tamil Nadu. Murugan stated, “DMK is trying to show the BJP is against Tamils but it’ll never happen; the BJP has grown well in Tamil Nadu. No one is trying to impose Hindi. If people want to learn the language, they can.”

This statement comes amid a dispute involving Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi over the Hindi-Tamil issue. Murugan defended Governor Ravi, saying he should not be blamed for a mistake made during the rendition of the State anthem at a DD Chennai function, where the word “Dravida” was omitted. Murugan argued that the Governor was merely a guest at the event.

Chief Minister Stalin accused Governor Ravi of deliberately disrespecting Tamil Nadu by omitting the word “Dravida” from the anthem. Stalin questioned whether Ravi was acting as a “Governor” or an “Aryan.” In response, Governor Ravi accused Stalin of making racist remarks.

DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai criticized Governor Ravi, claiming he opposes Dravidian ideology and insulted Tamil pride. Annadurai suggested that if Governor Ravi had any self-respect, he would resign. The DMK also expressed concerns about the celebration of Hindi month in Tamil Nadu, questioning the Governor’s agenda.
