Union Minister JP Nadda Urges Expansion of 75,000 Medical Seats by 2029
New Delhi, India – Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, has called on the National Medical Commission (NMC) to increase the number of medical seats by 75,000 by the year 2029. He made this announcement during the 4th-anniversary celebration of the NMC.
Achievements and Future Goals
During his speech, JP Nadda congratulated the NMC for its achievements over the past four years, including the addition of 25,000 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats. He also noted that the NMC had reached its goal of 100,000 MBBS seats a year ahead of schedule.
Nadda encouraged the NMC to meet the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which aims to add 75,000 more medical seats in the next five years to accommodate the growing number of aspiring medical professionals.
Technological Advancements
Nadda praised the NMC for adopting new technologies, such as using artificial intelligence (AI) to assess medical colleges and implementing Aadhar-enabled biometric attendance systems (AEBAS) for faculty. He urged the NMC to continue improving the quality of medical education in India.
National Medical Register
The Union Minister highlighted the creation of the National Medical Register (NMR), a dynamic database for all allopathic doctors, which has already received around 20,000 applications.
Public Health Initiatives
Nadda also spoke about the Family Adoption Program, which aims to make MBBS students more humane and skillful clinicians. He emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare and wellness.
Publications and Awards
On this occasion, Nadda released several publications, including an essay compilation book titled ‘Making of a Family Physician: Reaching the Roots,’ a collage book, and a survey report on medical camps conducted by colleges under the Family Adoption Program. He also awarded students who wrote the best essays and created the best collages.
