About the National Medical Register

The NMR is mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019. It will serve as a comprehensive and dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in India, linked to their Aadhaar IDs to ensure authenticity.

Statements from Officials

Speaking at the event, Nadda praised the NMC and the National Health Authority (NHA) for their efforts. He emphasized that the NMR is a significant step towards making India digitally advanced in healthcare.

Union MoS Anupriya Patel highlighted the importance of having authentic data on doctors across the country. She noted that the NMR would help maintain accurate and updated information.

Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra added that the NMR would provide comprehensive data on more than 13 lakh doctors, including those who have left the country or lost their licenses.

Registration Process

The registration process for the NMR is straightforward and online. All medical colleges and institutions, including Institutes of National Importance (INIs) and State Medical Councils (SMCs), are interconnected on the portal. Some data will be visible to the public, while other information will be accessible only to authorized bodies.

Doctors must have a digital copy of their MBBS degree certificate, the registration certificate from the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India, and their Aadhaar number to begin the registration process.
