Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 21: Union Minister of State, Jitendra Singh, has responded to allegations of animal fat being used in the making of Tirupati prasadam. He assured that both the state and central governments are aware of the issue and will take action against those responsible. Singh emphasized that the matter affects everyone’s faith and must be addressed to restore trust.

Singh stated, “The state government led by Chandrababu Naidu and the central government have both taken cognisance of the matter. Those who are responsible, appropriate action will be taken against them. It is unimaginable; Tirupati is beyond any community; it’s about the faith of all. To establish that faith again, action will be taken for sure with proper evidence.”

Background of the Controversy

The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) of politicizing religious matters. He stated that the tender process for ingredients occurs every six months and has not changed for decades, ensuring quality through NABL certification.

Political Reactions

Reddy announced plans to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, claiming that Naidu has twisted the facts. The YSRCP has also moved to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, demanding an investigation into the claims.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called the allegations “disturbing” and stressed the need to protect the sanctity of religious spaces. Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of all places of worship.

Karnataka Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that all prasada offered at major temples in the state will be tested, mandating the use of only KMF’s Nandini ghee.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh shared a video clip showing Chief Minister Naidu alleging the use of animal fat in Tirupati prasadam. Lokesh expressed shock and criticized the YS Jagan administration for disrespecting religious sentiments.

YSRCP leader YV Subbareddy denied the allegations, stating that only organic ingredients have been used in the preparation of prasadam for the past three years.
