Union Minister Jitendra Singh Proposes National Geospatial Data Repository

New Delhi [India], August 10: Union Minister Jitendra Singh proposed a National Geospatial Data Repository and a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model while chairing a joint meeting of all the Science Ministries and Departments of the Government of India at Prithvi Bhavan.

Unified Geospatial Interface

Addressing the meeting, Jitendra Singh instructed the Department of Space, Department of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Earth Sciences to create a unified Geospatial interface. This interface aims to help the industry and Start-up ecosystems create innovative and indigenous products for the welfare of farmers, rural artisans, and others.

Seamless Geo-ICT Infrastructure

Jitendra Singh emphasized the seamless connection of Geo-ICT infrastructure. He shared the mantra of a sustainable ecosystem based on pooling knowledge and resources in collaboration with non-governmental sectors in PPP mode. The Minister highlighted the importance of early industry linkage and the multiplication of benefits for common people when such initiatives achieve scale and volume.

Coordination Among Departments

He assured that all departments under the ministry would act in coordination to achieve common objectives. One of the highlights of the meeting was the review of the month-long National Space Day celebration and the main event on August 23 at the Bharat Mandapam. He also reviewed other important upcoming events.

Progress on ‘Vigyan Shakti’ Portal

The Union Minister also reviewed the progress on the proposed ‘Vigyan Shakti’ portal and provided insightful remarks based on his experience with scientific portals. The Unified Web repository of Indian Science and Technology was made live, and feedback was shared with the minister. The department sought his guidance for further integration and improvement of the portal to become a single nodal point for all scientific departments.
