Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi Responds to Bihar Hooch Tragedy

In Panchkula, Haryana, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi addressed the recent hooch tragedy in Bihar, which resulted in the deaths of 25 people. He praised the Bihar government for acting swiftly to apprehend the culprits. Manjhi noted that Bihar has a large population of 13 to 14 crore people.

During the oath-taking ceremony of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Manjhi commented on the tragedy. Bihar’s Director General of Police, Alok Raj, confirmed that 25 people died after consuming spurious liquor in Siwan and Saran, with 12 arrests made.

Opposition leaders criticized the ineffective enforcement of the liquor ban in Bihar. Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishor described the ban as existing only in government records and speeches, highlighting past incidents and accusing the government of insensitivity. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also criticized the state government, claiming the liquor ban is not enforced and that Bihar is unsafe under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
