Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi Discusses Bihar’s Development and Special State Status

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has stated that the NITI Aayog has decided not to grant special state status to any state, including Bihar. Despite this decision, he emphasized that Prime Minister Modi is paying special attention to Bihar’s development. Manjhi highlighted that schemes worth about Rs 300 crore were allocated to Bihar in the last budget.

Manjhi made these remarks while celebrating his 80th birthday in Patna. He responded to the JD(U)’s demand for special state status for Bihar by noting that it is not unusual to raise such demands, but the NITI Aayog’s decision stands firm.

Earlier, on July 22, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply, stated that special status cannot be granted to Bihar as per the Inter-Ministerial Group’s 2012 report. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2024-25, made significant announcements for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, including a boost in infrastructure.
