Union Minister Harsh Malhotra and MPs Flag Off ‘Run for Inclusion’ in New Delhi
In New Delhi, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, along with BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari and Bansuri Swaraj, inaugurated the ‘Run for Inclusion’ event. This event was organized by Special Olympics Bharat, a national sports federation that promotes sports for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The event, considered the largest of its kind in India, aimed to celebrate inclusion through sports. It took place at the Central Civil Service Ground, Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri, with around 10,000 participants from Delhi NCR joining the 3 km run. The event also welcomed over 1,000 special athletes from about 100 schools and colleges.
The theme of the run, “Each One, Reach One,” emphasized inclusivity, encouraging participants to connect with special athletes. Additionally, the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocce and Bowling Competition, the first global event of its kind in India, was introduced, focusing on athletes aged 22 and above with IDD. This marked a milestone for Special Olympics Bharat as it introduced bowling as a competitive sport for special athletes in collaboration with the Tenpin Federation of India.
Special Olympics Bharat is accredited by Special Olympics Inc., USA, and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, as the National Sports Federation for developing sports for individuals with IDD across India. Special Olympics is a global movement that uses sports, health, education, and leadership programs to empower people with intellectual disabilities.
