Union Minister Giriraj Singh has emphasized the need for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Jharkhand, citing a significant decrease in the tribal population. He believes that the NRC is necessary across the entire country. Singh pointed out that under the Hemant Soren government, Islamic laws are being followed, with schools closing on Fridays instead of Sundays. He noted that the tribal population in Jharkhand has dropped from 44% to 28%, necessitating the NRC in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam.

BJP’s Stance on NRC Implementation

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister and BJP incharge for Jharkhand, stated that the BJP plans to implement the NRC in the state, accusing the Hemant Soren government of favoring infiltrators for vote bank politics. Chouhan highlighted the changing demographics due to infiltrators from Bangladesh, affecting the tribal population in the Santhal region.

BJP’s Election Manifesto

The BJP has released ‘Paanch Prana’ as part of their election manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand. The promises include Yuva Sathi, Gogo Didi Yojana, Ghar Saakar, Laxmi Johar, and ‘Assured Employment’. Jharkhand is expected to hold elections for its 81-member legislative assembly by December 2024.
