Union Minister G Kishan Reddy Leads Coal Ministry’s CSR Efforts in Health and Community Development
The Ministry of Coal, through its CPSEs, has integrated social responsibility as a core element of its strategy. Led by Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, the ministry has committed around Rs 800 crore annually to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Key Health Initiatives
One of the flagship health initiatives is the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana, which has successfully completed 500 Bone Marrow Transplants (BMTs). NLCIL has also established a Dialysis Centre in Government Hospital, Cuddalore, providing 13,000 dialysis cycles annually.
In response to the pandemic, NLCIL and its joint ventures set up 28 Medical Oxygen Plants with a combined capacity of 2,500 beds across various states, strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.
Project Nanha Sa Dil
Coal India Limited launched Project Nanha Sa Dil to address Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). The project aims to screen approximately 18,000 children for CHD and provide surgical or catheter-based interventions for 500 children. It also plans to train over 50 young professionals in pediatric cardiac care.
Other Health-Related CSR Efforts
Other notable efforts include the construction of Premashralay, a home for outpatients undergoing cancer treatment in Kolkata, and the provision of healthcare services through mobile units. The ministry has also funded the development and repair of infrastructure and medical equipment for COVID-19 care centers and supported the Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in collaboration with Tata Cancer Care.
