Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches New Tech at C-DAC Pune
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches New Tech at C-DAC Pune
On January 11, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of computing and technological development for India's growth by 2047. At the C-DAC campus in Pashan, Pune, he launched new technology products developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).
New Technology Unveiled
The Union Minister introduced the ARIES ECO and ARIES NOVA development boards, along with THEJAS64, a 64-bit System-on-Chip (SoC). These innovations are part of the Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) program. ARIES ECO is designed for students to experiment with applications like sensor fusion and smart meters, while ARIES NOVA supports education and research in embedded systems. THEJAS64 is India's first fully indigenous 64-bit VEGA based SoC for secure embedded applications.
VEGA Series and RISC-V Architecture
The VEGA series includes high-performance processor cores based on the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture, promoting flexibility and innovation in embedded systems. The open-source nature of RISC-V fosters hands-on learning and development.
Minister's Visit and Future Plans
During his visit, Minister Vaishnaw attended an exhibition and a review meeting with C-DAC scientists. He highlighted the significant research in semiconductors at institutions like IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru. The goal is to consolidate research efforts for a unified approach. C-DAC plays a central role by providing advanced tools for semiconductor design, enabling students to gain practical experience and prepare for the industry.
Opportunities for Students
Minister Vaishnaw announced a challenge competition for students skilled in semiconductor design tools, with opportunities to connect with industry leaders. C-DAC will also offer a certification course to further support student development.
Doubts Revealed
Union Minister
A Union Minister is a person who is part of the central government of India and is responsible for specific areas like technology, education, or health. Ashwini Vaishnaw is one such minister.
C-DAC Pune
C-DAC stands for Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, and it is a research and development organization in India. Pune is a city in India where one of the C-DAC centers is located.
ARIES ECO and ARIES NOVA
These are names of new technology products, specifically development boards, which are used to create and test new electronic systems and devices.
THEJAS64 SoC
THEJAS64 SoC is a type of computer chip called a System on Chip (SoC) that integrates all components of a computer or other electronic system into a single chip.
Digital India RISC-V program
This is an initiative by the Indian government to promote the use of RISC-V, an open-source computer architecture, as part of the Digital India campaign to boost technology and innovation in the country.
Embedded systems
Embedded systems are small computers that are part of larger devices, like washing machines or cars, to control specific functions.
