Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan Meets Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar
On Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan met with Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar in New Delhi to discuss the law and order situation in the state. The meeting focused on the security scenario, women’s safety, and police reforms in Uttarakhand.
Govind Mohan assured DGP Abhinav Kumar of all possible cooperation from the central government to strengthen the state’s law and order, especially concerning women’s safety. DGP Kumar invited the Union Home Secretary to visit Devbhoomi Uttarakhand to guide state officials.
The meeting followed the formation of a five-member committee by DGP Abhinav Kumar to develop a detailed action plan to prevent crimes against women in the state. The committee, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Renuka Devi, will conduct a comprehensive study on various aspects, including the nature of crimes against women, crime rates, identification of sensitive areas, reporting of such crimes, the status of investigations, and court outcomes.
The committee will also provide information on the assistance and services available to crime victims and assess the actions taken by the police to prevent crimes against women. Additionally, it will evaluate the level of societal awareness about these crimes and the infrastructural and human resource needs in the districts for effective crime control.
DGP Abhinav Kumar also mentioned that to minimize inconvenience during religious processions and demonstrations, he has instructed all district in-charges in Uttarakhand to coordinate with the concerned District Magistrate. The aim is to regulate events while maintaining public convenience and peace, ensuring that such events do not disrupt the functioning of hospitals and educational institutions or impede patients and students in their daily activities.
