Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Discusses Future of School Education in India

New Delhi [India], July 9: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the inaugural session of the review meeting of the Department of School Education and Literacy with States and Union Territories. He shared his thoughts on the roadmap for the next five years for the holistic development of school education across India.

Key Points from Dharmendra Pradhan’s Speech

Pradhan emphasized that education is a key pillar of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat. He called upon States and Union Territories to work together to achieve this goal. He highlighted the progress made in the education ecosystem in the almost four years since the National Education Policy (NEP) was introduced.

Pradhan stressed the importance of education in the mother tongue and all Indian languages, as outlined in the NEP 2020. He called for ensuring Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability, and Accountability in education.

Building a Future-Ready Education System

Pradhan noted that India is a young country and the challenge is to prepare global citizens for the 21st century, driven by technology. He emphasized the need for an education system that is both rooted in tradition and futuristic. He also highlighted the importance of building technology readiness in schools and fostering critical thinking among students.

He urged States and the Centre to work as a team to strengthen the education ecosystem and replicate best practices from across all regions. Pradhan called for a collaborative approach to strengthen capacities and leverage education as a key pillar of Viksit Bharat.

Focus on Teachers and Competency-Based Education

Pradhan spoke about the emotional connection with school teachers and the importance of building teachers’ capacities to make the educational ecosystem more vibrant. He also emphasized the need to augment skilling capacities to increase employability.
