Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates Workshop for Higher Education Institutions
New Delhi [India], September 4: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated a one-day workshop for higher educational institutions to develop their Institution Development Plan (IDP). The workshop aims to empower institutions for academic and professional excellence, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Pradhan emphasized that the IDP should go beyond documents to realize national goals and cater to youth aspirations. He highlighted the need to upgrade at least 5000 existing institutions into Centres of Excellence focusing on entrepreneurship, skills, and world-class research.
The workshop, held at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in New Delhi, also saw the release of the UGC Compendium of Regulations. This compendium consolidates all UGC rules, regulations, and notifications from 1957 to December 2023, providing a valuable resource for institutions and students.
Key figures present included K Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Dept. of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC, and Dr NS Kalsi, Former Chairperson, NCVET. Around 200 heads of higher education institutions across India participated.
During his address, the Secretary of Higher Education elaborated on various aspects of the IDP Guidelines, offering insights on strategic planning, innovation, research and development, industry collaboration, and promoting equity and inclusivity. Prof M Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the significance of IDP as a roadmap for growth and excellence.
The workshop featured two thematic sessions where participants learned about governance enablers, financial planning, human resources, networking, digital enablers, research, and curriculum development. Experts from industry, academia, and government shared their insights.
Vice Chairman, UGC, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, and Secretary, UGC, Prof Manish Joshi, expressed their appreciation and reiterated UGC’s commitment to supporting these initiatives.
