UN Praises India: 80 Crore People Lifted Out of Poverty Thanks to PM Modi’s Digital Policies
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted UNGA President Dennis Francis’s praise for India’s transformation under PM Modi. Francis noted that 80 crore people were lifted out of poverty and 25 crore from multi-dimensional poverty due to digital government policies.
Chandrasekhar emphasized the role of technology, internet expansion, and banking inclusion in this achievement. He mentioned that before 2014, only 17 crore people had internet access, which has now increased to 90 crore. Similarly, the number of people with bank accounts has risen from 14 crore to 52 crore.
Former UK PM Tony Blair also commended India’s progress, suggesting other countries follow its example. Chandrasekhar criticized opposition parties for questioning the progress made in the last ten years, asserting that the world acknowledges India’s advancements.
Earlier, Dennis Francis praised India’s digitization efforts, which have enabled people in rural areas to make payments and pay bills using smartphones. He emphasized that high internet penetration has been a key factor in India’s success, unlike many other countries in the Global South.
