Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Defends US President Biden’s Mistake
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has defended US President Joe Biden after Biden mistakenly referred to him as ‘President Putin’ during a NATO event. Biden quickly corrected himself, but the incident drew international attention.
When asked about the mistake at Ireland’s Shannon Airport, Zelenskyy shrugged it off, saying, ‘It was a mistake. I think the United States gave a lot of support for Ukrainians. We can forget some mistakes.’
Biden’s verbal slip-ups, including confusing Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Donald Trump, have drawn scrutiny, especially as he faces pressure over his age. Despite this, Biden has vowed to continue his campaign for re-election.
The United States continues to provide significant military aid to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Recently, the Biden administration announced a new USD 2.3 billion military aid package for Ukraine, along with an additional USD 2.2 billion in arms purchases under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This initiative aims to provide long-term support to Ukraine.
Weeks earlier, the US and Ukraine signed a bilateral security treaty, committing the US to training Ukraine’s armed forces and providing more arms assistance and information. Zelenskyy praised the security pact as ‘a bridge to Ukraine’s membership in NATO.’
