Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has defended US President Joe Biden after Biden mistakenly referred to him as ‘President Putin’ during a NATO event. Zelenskyy called it ‘a mistake’ and highlighted the significant support the US has provided to Ukraine.

During the event, Biden quickly corrected himself, stating, ‘He’s going to beat President Putin–President Zelenskyy. I’m so focused on beating Putin, we got to worry about it.’ Despite the correction, the incident drew international attention and criticism from Russian state media.

When asked about the incident at Ireland’s Shannon Airport, Zelenskyy responded, ‘It was a mistake. I think the United States gave a lot of support for Ukrainians. We can forget some mistakes, I think so.’

Biden’s verbal slip-ups, including confusing Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Donald Trump, have come under scrutiny as he faces pressure over his age and fitness to serve another term. Despite this, Biden has vowed to continue his campaign for the upcoming November election.

The United States has recently announced a new USD 2.3 billion military aid package for Ukraine, along with an additional USD 2.2 billion in arms purchases under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This initiative aims to provide long-term support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Additionally, a bilateral security treaty was signed, committing the US to train Ukraine’s armed forces and provide more arms assistance and information for the next ten years. Zelenskyy praised the security pact as ‘a bridge to Ukraine’s membership in NATO.’
