Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Urges Stronger Air Defence and Support Amid Ongoing War with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of boosting air defence and protecting critical infrastructure in the ongoing war with Russia. During a Ukraine-NATO Council meeting, he highlighted Ukraine’s urgent needs and expressed gratitude to allies for their support.

Zelenskyy condemned recent Russian attacks, including a devastating airstrike on Kupiansk that resulted in casualties. He called for intensified responses to Russian aggression, stating, “This terror must never become a so-called ‘new normal’ for Europe.”

He also mentioned the ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kryvyi Rih and stressed the need for front-line supplies, including weapons and ammunition. Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to nations helping Ukraine and insisted that decisive action now would help bring the war to a just end.

Over two-and-a-half years of war, Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, attempting to plunge its citizens into darkness and use freezing winter temperatures as a weapon of war. On August 26, explosions were heard in Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine as Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack.
