Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Plans to End War with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is working on a comprehensive plan to end the war with Russia, aiming to gain support from the majority of the world. He announced this at a news conference in Kyiv, alongside Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a diplomatic solution, stating, “It is very important for us to show a plan to end the war that will be supported by the majority of the world.” He also mentioned that there are currently no negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukraine insists that Russia must withdraw its troops from internationally recognized Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, before peace talks can begin. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin demands that Ukraine evacuate more territory in the east and south, which Russia now occupies.
Earlier this month, Zelenskyy hosted a major international summit in Switzerland to rally support for Ukraine’s position. Over 90 countries participated, and the majority agreed on the need to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity in any settlement.
Meanwhile, Russian troops continue to advance, claiming to have seized another small front-line village. Moscow currently occupies about 25% of Ukraine and has annexed four more regions in 2022, none of which they fully control.
At an EU Council Summit in Brussels, Zelenskyy said he would present a detailed plan to end the war within a few months, stressing the urgency due to high casualty rates among soldiers and civilians.
