Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy Urges Western Help After Massive Russian Attack
Kyiv [Ukraine], August 26: Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has called on Western countries to increase their support following a significant missile and drone attack by Russia. The attack, which targeted energy infrastructure across Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of at least four people and caused power outages in several cities.
Zelenskyy shared a video describing the attack as one of the largest, involving over a hundred missiles and around a hundred drones. He emphasized the need for European aviation to work together with Ukraine’s F-16s and air defense systems to protect lives.
He also criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Putin can only act within the limits set by the world. Zelenskyy urged America, Britain, France, and other partners to take decisive action to stop the terror.
Ukraine’s air force detected dozens of missiles and drones targeting almost all regions of the country, including Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Kyiv. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that 15 regions were targeted, and emergency power cuts were implemented to stabilize the system.
Ukraine had been preparing for a major Russian attack in response to its incursion into the border region of Kursk. Ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, the US Embassy in Kyiv warned of an increased risk of Russian attacks.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stated that the energy sector was heavily targeted, and the extent of the damage was being investigated. Deaths were reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Volyn, and Zhytomyr regions, with injuries in the Poltava region.
