Boosting Trade and Investment

The UK introduced a package of measures aimed at increasing intra-Commonwealth trade and investment. These measures include the establishment of a Commonwealth Investment Network to promote investment in small, climate-vulnerable countries. Additionally, hubs will be set up in India and Sri Lanka to support female-led businesses.

Empowering Youth and Supporting Governance

The UK plans to empower young people by providing access to education and skills. It will also support democratic governance, human rights, and the rule of law. A new training scheme for tax advisors will be launched to help developing Commonwealth economies enhance their financial sustainability.

Climate Change and Renewable Energy

To combat climate change, the UK will support six Pacific Island nations in piloting clean energy technologies. Funding will also aid a Commonwealth program focused on marine biodiversity conservation and plastic waste management in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Education and Inclusion

Up to 80 Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships will be awarded to students from Commonwealth Small Island Developing States. The UK will also increase support for programs promoting the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and persons with disabilities.

Strengthening Diplomatic Ties

Foreign Secretary David Lammy held bilateral meetings with leaders from various Commonwealth countries, discussing trade, climate action, and social inclusion.
